Frequently Asked Questions

All our wooden planters can be tailored to your size requirements up to a maximum length of 3 metres in all Contemporary / Classic designs. The maximum length / height for Trellis’s is 1.8m. If you find bending and stooping difficult, elevated planter boxes can help raise gardening to an easier level. We specialise in raised planters that can help you continue your love of gardening without the backache. We can also make bespoke planters to your.

All our Wooden Planters are made with Pressure Treated timber, which is more durable, long lasting, and more resistant to rot, fungus, mould, and insects. The life cycle of pressure treated timber will depend on multiple variables, but in general we would expect that pressure treated timber will last for significantly longer than non- treated even in very exposed locations. You can safely leave your timber product outside without any further treatment. Overtime, pressure treated wood will weather naturally. Outdoor wood planter boxes are made of materials that are freely available in nature. For this reason, wood boxes are naturally more eco-friendly than plastic box. Natural pressure treated wood has a soft, sophisticated appearance, and it also complements green plants nicely. The natural beauty of wood makes it excellent for outdoor use.

All our wooden planters are available Natural with the option to have them painted / stained at an additional cost dependent on the size. We use Ronseal or Cuprinol Outdoor Wood Paints as they are specifically formulated to give the wood an added layer of protection as well as aesthetically adding colour to the area. However, it is advisable should you decide to paint your natural wood planter later that the wood is completely dry. Otherwise, the paint or stain coverage may be inconsistent. Consistently creating unique beautiful planters with function and style at its core.

All our wooden Planters are delivered fully assembled, we line all our planters with a specifically designed Weed Control Lining membrane (black), its long lasting and effective. If the choice is to use artificial hedging etc no lining is required.

Planters made of wood do not hold too much moisture, providing good drainage for plants. Our planters come with fully lined, drainage already built-in allowing water to slowly drain out.

Our Wooden Planters are made using timber posts that are rebated which gives an added strength and hides the joins giving a cleaner finished result. Our Planter boxes are raised off the ground with a slatted bottom for drainage. You also have the option to have raise or lower interior depth depending on your planting requirements.

We use a standard depth of 35cm which is more than sufficient for all planting. The depth can be changed bespoke to your requirements.

We recommend that you use compost, while it might be tempting to fill your planters with garden soil, please don’t fall for that temptation. The soil that fills in-ground gardens is heavy and dense. That’s a poor combination for container growing. Compost mixes will include ingredients to aerate your soil and keep it light such as shredded bark and materials to increase soil filtration and retention of nutrients.

The weather may cause all woods (pressure treated or not) to expand and contact which occasionally can result in a cosmetic naturally occurring "split" in all timbers. Unfortunately, this is something we cannot 100% guard against over time but can reassure that this is not structural weakness. We endeavour to use quality locally sourced pressure treated timber to limit this happening but have a few advisory actions to take should you need to cosmetically hide any minor imperfections that may appear over its time. (1) Apply a small amount of Ronseal High Performance Wood Filler ‐ (Natural) (2) Allow to dry and lightly sand with fine sandpaper Apply 2 x coats of paint / stain.
